Instructions to Authors

Authorship

Only authors making significant contributions to the manuscript should be listed as co-authors. Authors must ensure that the “Instructions to Authors” on the preparation of manuscript is duly followed. All authors must approve the submission and this should be clearly indicated on the cover letter. Submitted manuscripts should neither be already published nor considered for publication elsewhere. All correspondence should be done through a designated corresponding author.

Types of Contributions

Contributions for publication in the journal include and not limited to the following:
i. Original research articles, Analyses, perspectives and Surveys.
ii. Review articles
iii. Case reports
iv. Short communications
v. Letters to the Editor
Original research article should be results of findings from an original research that is ethically approved. All articles will be checked for plagiarism. The articles must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Review articles should include topics within the scope of the journal and not exceed 35,000 words. Short communications, Letters to the Editor and correspondences should be information within the scope of the journal and should not exceed 2000 words.

Manuscript preparation:

The manuscript must be typewritten in English, in Times New Roman, font size 12, on A4 size paper with double line spacing on a normal margin page layout with continuous line numbering. The manuscript including tables, graphs and charts should be prepared in Microsoft® Office package (2007 or a later version).

Illustrations (duly cited) should be presented within the manuscripts but after reference list. Figures should be of high resolution (at least 300 dpi) and included after tables. It is the responsibility of author(s) to seek permission to reproduce illustrations, tables or any other previously published data. An accepted paper remains a permanent property of SVJ.

All measurements should be in standard international units. Temperature should be in degree Celsius. Generic names of drugs, chemicals and reagents which have been accepted by international standard organizations should be adopted.

The article should be presented in the following format:

1. Title: Should be short, concise, self-explanatory and not more than 20 words. Author(s) list (and affiliations) should be provided with surname name last. The contact details of the corresponding author must be provided including e-mail and telephone numbers.

2. Abstract: The abstract should be a true summary of the work and not exceeding 250 words. It should be sub-sectioned into: Introduction, Aim, Methods, Results and Significance.

3. Key words: Three to five key words should be stated.

4. Introduction: Should be concise and not a broad review of literatures. This should be presented focusing on the justification of the work, aim and specific objectives/hypothesis and or research questions. Use pertinent and preferably recent references.

5. Materials and methods: Give a clear technical information about what was done in a way in which the study can be replicated. Study design should be clearly stated. It suffices to cite reference(s) for commonly used methods while full description of new methods is required. It is preferred that the methods be sectioned with appropriate subheadings including statistical analysis. Proof of ethical approval must be provided where appropriate.

6. Results: Should be concisely presented in text and additionally in well cited tables and figures. Authors should avoid repeating numbers already presented in tables in the texts; rather show trends and relationships inherent in the data. The tables must be numbered using Arabic numerals.

7. Discussion: Authors should interpret the significant results obtained while providing a concise comparison with previously published studies. Unnecessary repetition of results should be avoided. Where necessary, important limitations should be discussed.

8. Conclusion(s): This should be clear and brief with a final take-home message clearly provided. Authors should emphasize the significance and implications of their findings.

9. Acknowledgements: Authors may wish to give credits to individuals and organizations that supported the work.

10. Conflicts of interest: This should be clearly stated.

11. References:

When making citations in text for an author’s name it should be written in brackets as (Raji, 2016) at the end of a statement, while in a running sentence as Raji (2016).

In the case of two authors, citation should be presented in a running statement as Raji and Raufu (2015) and (Raji and Raufu, 2015) at the end of a statement.

For more than two authors, it should be written as (Salami et al., 2015) and as Salami et al. (2015) in a running sentence.

When making reference to the same author for two or more articles published within the same year, (Raji and Raufu, 2015a) or (Raji and Raufu, 2015b) or (Ambali et al., 2015a) or (Ambali et al., 2015b) as the case may be should be used.

Papers from peer reviewed periodicals, proceedings, text-books, a book chapter and other technical reports must be referenced.

Citations should be arranged chronologically with the earliest presented first such as: (Raufu, 2015; Raji, 2016). The list of references should be arranged alphabetically in the reference list.

Referencing an article in a journal:

This should be written as: Lorusso, V., Wijnveld, M., Latrofa, M.S., Fajinmi, A., Majekodunmi, A.O., Dogo, A.G., Igweh, A.C., Otranto, D., Jongejan, F., Welburn, S.C. and Picozzi, K. (2016). Canine and ovine tick-borne pathogens in camels, Nigeria. Veterinary Parasitology, 228: 90-92.

Referencing an author with chapter in a book:

Ambali, S.F. (2016). Toxic Mushrooms in Sub-Saharan Africa. In: Toxicology in the Tropics, 3^rd Edition. Taylor and Francis, London, UK. pp 23-28.

Referencing authors of a text book:

Schalm, S. and Jain, N.C. (1986). Veterinary Haematology. 4^th Edition. Lea and Fabriger, Philadelphia, USA.

Referencing authors in proceedings of a journal:

Aluwong, T., Kobo, P.I., Raji, M.A., Hassan, B.F., Sulaiman, M.M., Aliyu, H. and Yaqub, L.S. (2011). Effect of different levels of supplemental yeast on performance of broiler chicks. Proceedings of the 48^th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), November 21^st – 25^th, Ilorin, Nigeria.

Submission of Manuscript:

Submission of article is done electronically through this platform. Authors are encouraged to register and log in before proceeding with their submission.

Handling and page charges:

Article processing fee A sum of five thousand naira (N6000.00) or US$20 for international authors shall be paid as processing fee by authors submitting manuscripts for review. No article would be processed until payment is confirmed.Payment is expected to be made through the online platform for payment.

Page charges:

This journal charges five thousand naira (N6000) or US$20 per printed page for accepted manuscripts. For pages containing colored plates, a sum of two thousand naira (N2000) is charged per plate.

Full inside page: N20,000
Inner back page: N30,000
Back page: N50,000

Accepted manuscript:

Galley Proof: PDF proof shall be sent to the corresponding author electronically. The author is expected to proof read and accept or correct the proof within two weeks.
